From Art House to Microcinema: I enjoyed this read because it reminded me that there are still true cinephiles left in the world. It a phenomena that I didn't know existed yet its making an impact on the communities. Bringing underground art house films to the people that want it is powerful. Its is fascinating how people take old churches or warehouses and turn them into these microcinemas. It is a testament to how much film is loved that people want to go out of their way to see these art house films and not just the blockbusters that play at the local regal cinemas.
Festivals of Their Own: Learning about how film festivals came to be is pretty interesting. As someone who possibly wants to pursue jobs in the festival world, at least to start, I am fascinated by how different yet similar festivals all are. The article tells of how every film festival has its own roots and how they have progressed from what they originally started off as.For example so many film festivals have become paparazzi filled that people forget about the art being shown their. It even discusses spin off festivals such as slamdance. The article suggests that success breeds imitation and thats why a film festival will spin off another to try and generate as much success. This article touches on how film festivals are there own and have their own identity, even the spin off alternative ones. I appreciate what the article about festivals and hope that one day festivals could move back towards what they should really be about, the art.
